Joy KevelsonLMHC, RPTI am a Licensed Mental Health Counselor and Registered Play Therapist who provides children, adolescents and adults the opportunity to process difficult issues in a safe, gentle and caring environment. I believe establishing and maintaining a confidential, trusting therapeutic relationship is essential to my clients meeting their own goals. I use a solution-focused, integrative approach of play therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, art therapy, social skills development and behavior management strategies to meet my clients where they are. Clients improve their ability to use their own strengths to help promote growth and positive changes.
With compassion and understanding, I work with clients presenting with a variety of issues including depression, anxiety, bipolar disorder, low self-esteem, behavioral issues, grief and trauma, among others.
As a Registered Play Therapist, I have specialized training in the therapeutic power of play. Play is a universal form of communication for children that promotes healthy cognitive, language, physical and social development. Through play, I help facilitate the development of a safe relationship for the child (of any age) to fully express and explore their feelings, experiences and behaviors. Additionally, I can assist parents with parenting strategies to make home life smoother and more successful. I see children, ages 3 and older, as well as adolescents and adults.
I received my Masters in Mental Health Counseling from Nova Southeastern University in 1994 and my undergraduate degree from the University of Florida in 1982.
